You Can Dial out and Hear but No One Can Hear You

If no one can hear you on a phone call try the following:

  • Make sure there aren’t any bandwidth hogs running. If there is a high-bandwidth application running, try pausing it and see if that clears up your phone call. High bandwidth applications include:
    • File sharing or other peer-to-peer applications like BitTorrent, Limewire, Kazaa
    • Graphic-heavy online games like World of Warcraft, League of Legends, or Call of Duty
    • Uploading large files with FTP programs
    • Sending email with big attachment sizes

  • Keep your VoIP phone adapter (the special router you received from telnet when you signed up) well ventilated so it doesn’t overheat

  • Make sure your VoIP phone adapter is positioned at least 3 feet away from any electronic device that might cause interference

  • Reboot your adapter, modem and computer (It may seem silly but often works.)

    To reboot your phone adapter:
    1. Pick up a phone that is connected to the phone adapter
    2. Dial:* * * * (star 4 times) even if there isn’t a dial tone
    3. Dial REBOOT# (732668#) and hang up

This will reboot the Phone Adapter

  • If you have multiple routers or other networking equipment, try plugging your phone adapter directly into the Internet modem. If this solves the sound issue, you might have a problem with one of the other pieces of equipment. Gradually add the equipment back into your setup until you’ve identified the one that’s causing the problem
